The autumn day in 1619, when Mughal Emperor Jehangir released Sikh Guru Hargovind Singh from captivity, was one of great rejoicing. It is believed that the royal chef himself created the kaju katli in honour of the guru. The Sikhs celebrate the day even today as Bandi Chor Diwas.
